Ye Olde Mailbag: The Raptors present, the Raptors future and trade deadline wrapup stuff

Another week, another jam-packed Ye Olde Mailbag and even with the predictable number of questions about trades, there’s other interesting stuff in here.Q: Hey Doug, not really a question but rather a plug. If you haven’t yet watched Bill Russell Legend it’s worth it. I was growing up in Etobicoke in the late 50s and 60s. I really don’t recall watching NBA games until the early 70s during high school.Stephen BellingerA: I certainly don’t remember any Canadian network doing any NBA basketball.

How much of the Jakob trade do you think was with that in mind, getting Pascal's best friend back on the team?A: He’s an excellent fit for a team that hasn’t had a legitimate centre for years and while the familiarity with the franchise and some of its players wasthing. A happy coincidence but the fact is there weren’t a lot of traditional big men available.

Regarding the Raptors - I imagine the offers other teams make for Raptor’s players help Masai and Bobby understand what the offers to Raptor’s impending free agents might be in the summer. If the trade deadline offers were not enough to get a trade done, does that say maybe those free agent contracts might not be astronomically high?ThanksA: Woj and Shams have an extensive list of sources that is anchored by agents and some team officials and work them diligently, to their credit.

Anyway, a very practical question about trade -deadline moves. Do players travel with an extra bag of luggage in case they get traded especially if like Poeltl they might have to stay behind? Did Poeltl stay behind Wed night in Toronto? Finally would the Raps put him up in a hotel for the rest of the season?Jakob did stay, the team would be responsible for a period of housing but most players won’t tempt fate by having an extra bag along.
