Ye Olde Mailbag: Raptors play-calling and the changing look of our jobs
A very, very abbreviated Ye Olde Mailbag, looks like you all took an all-star break, too.I love watching Gary Trent Jr operate he’s such a bucket. But why doesn’t he also run a pick and roll. Seems like such a threat because if he pops out it’s a three and he also finishes well at rim. The lob to Jak seems a no brainer. Of course I could just be an idiot.A: They do a fair amount of pick and pop with Trent which is far more effective than him rolling into traffic.
As for story content, I have earned a fair bit of autonomy because of the time I’ve put it. I wouldn’t say I tell them when I’m doing – it’s more collaborative than that – but I am able to discuss story topics that I don’t think work and generally win. The “listicles” or “hot takes” or “click bait” items are not my style so I’m seldom asked to do them.
It was an excellent trade. The Raptors needed three things – size, depth and shooting – and got two without giving up a thing.Hope you got a break during All-Star weekend, with half a week before the first game back. Thanks again for the article explaining what the team is trying to do .
