The Blue Jays won’t admit the cause of death in their Game 2 meltdown. It was John Schneider’s over-managing of a game that required only minimal finesse to bring home safe and sound. Opinion by RDiManno

, offered no such forensic clarity, at least not with general manager Ross Atkins dipping his hands into the gore.

But Schneider didn’t own it. He never once suggested that any jagged shard of the disaster that unfolded was on him or could be traced to his maladroit handling of his starting pitcher and bullpen. And if there was a theme that ran through snatches of commentary from that stunned clubhouse, it was the absence of blame. Only closer Jordan Romano, with tears in his eyes, admitted to fault and expressed self-reproach.

Why? Because Schneider was cleaving to analytics and tendencies and looking three batters down the pike rather than applying the eye test to Gausman.
