Dave Feschuk: Raptors deadline dud makes Masai Ujiri look like a man without a plan
a protected 2024 first-round pick and two second-round picks, amounted to a confusing half-measure. The trade certainly didn’t clarify the path forward. And it certainly didn’t befit Ujiri’s reputation as an operator unafraid of big swings.
On the other hand, a pre-deadline micro-improvement doesn’t exactly bode well for Toronto’s chances of a late-season tank, which could be seen as negligent given the quality of talent available at the top of the June draft. “I believe in these guys. We believe in them,” he said. “We think growth sometimes takes a while … Hopefully we can have a little bit of patience.”
