Opinion: In the midst of a housing crisis, when thousands are homeless and thousands more are clinging to their housing by their fingernails, it is legitimate to ask whether it is right that profiteering in rental housing remains legal in Ontario.
And so they will pay whatever they can — they will pay everything they have — because the alternative is so dire.
There’s a name for this practice. It’s called profiteering: the act of making an unreasonable profit on the sale of essential goods, especially during times of emergency.
