Call it political slow-walking, or over-promising and under-delivering — this was the week it all caught up with us.
The week got off to a gut-wrenching start with most of Atlantic Canada losing power, and some residents losing their homes — and even their lives — to Hurricane Fiona. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and a plethora of cabinet ministers and regional politicians were on hand to offer their support, promise funds and help pick up the pieces..
The federal government is leading national discussions on climate adaptation, emergency response, the adequacy of insurance and proper infrastructure, and it hopes to release a strategy by the end of the year. Meanwhile, it’s busy adding in some short-term commitments.
