Leafs mailbag: Is Toronto finally ready to win a playoff round vs. the Lightning?
The whole business of sometimes 12 forwards and six defencemen and sometimes 11-and-7 would seem to be disconcerting now to the opposition. The Leafs seem comfortable with it. Presumably 12-and-6 will be more the norm whenBut it’s funny we’re still in wait-and-see mode. They’re on their way to their fourth 100-point season in the last six years and it’s all ho-hum. The Matthews-Marner era is a near unprecedented run for regular-season success. And still, there’s nagging doubt.

Kevin, you have watched the Leafs closely throughout the regular season. Have you seen enough evidence of the kind of consistent individual and team play that they will need in order to be successful against Tampa in the first round?I’m troubled by what I’ve seen lately from them. I’m troubled that they can’t seem to come from behind in the third period. I prefer Tampa’s goaltending. That said, they’re as deep as they’ve ever been. They’re as battle tested as they’ve ever been.
