Here’s a tip, Leafs: Keep going to the front of the net. Lightning coach Jon Cooper might be right in saying the Leafs have been lucky. But they’ve created that luck. Opinion by dfeschuk
“Who’s stopping the Acciari tip? Nobody’s stopping that. Who’s stopping the Matthews tip? Nobody’s stopping that,” Cooper said in a Tuesday conference call with reporters. “The winning goal — who was that, Kerfoot’s? Who’s stopping that?”“No goalie in the league, take any goalie, take the best goalies in the history of the game, they’re not stopping any of those,” Cooper said. “Those are unbelievable, 100-per-cent-chance-of-going-in goals. It’s just tough that they’re all happening in one game.
He’s right, to a point. The Leafs, leading the league with five tip-in goals during these playoffs, are on a certain kind of heater. Matthews has tipped in two in four playoff games. And as much of a hand-eye genius as he happens to be, it’s worth noting he tipped in a grand total of three goals during the entire regular season. Kerfoot scored the overtime winner on a tip-in.
