Opinion: GOP needs to learn some lessons from the latest election results [Opinion]
” : Michael Smolen’s interview with Republican strategist Ron Nehring was a good analysis of what happened to Republicans in the midterms. For example he said elections are about the future, not just about grievances and many candidates ran on the economy and crime but were overtaken by extreme rhetoric by some candidates that weren’t very good and election deniers.
He also pointed out that the anti mail-in/absentee ballot position hurt Republicans because they have historically had big advantages there. He advised the GOP move past Donald Trump, and back to basic philosophies of lower taxes, less regulation and smaller government. A good Republican road map. Other issues besides overturning Roe hurt the Republicans. Many moderate Republicans, Democrats and Independents recognized that even with a struggling economy and high inflation, the U.S. was in much better shape than most, and voters saw that Biden’s administration passed historic legislation to help Americans. And the Jan. 6 hearings were somewhat impactful.
