If you were asked today to pick the winner of the upcoming Masters, you’d say Scottie Scheffler, right?, his second win of the season after he successfully defended his WM Phoenix Open title last month in a duel with Canadian Nick Taylor.Scheffler made things look easy, even in blustery final-round conditions.won the Genesis Invitational, his third victory of 2023.
What about in January? Wouldn’t you have said Rory McIlroy? When the Northern Irishman captured the DP World Tour’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic at the end of that month, it marked his third victory in seven worldwide starts since the previous August. First, McIlroy won the PGA Tour’s Tour Championship in come-from-behind fashion to claim his third FedEx Cup crown.
Scheffler, Rahm and McIlroy have separated themselves from a very deep and talented pack in men’s golf. Only they have sat atop the Official World Golf Ranking since Rahm reclaimed the throne from Dustin Johnson on July 18, 2021.
