OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and former Apple design chief Jony Ive are seeking funding for a dedicated device for the generative AI chatbot ChatGPT.

Right now, OpenAI's ChatGPT is accessible via just about any smart device, and more recently you can do so without an account too. But it looks like the company may be looking to make a dedicated device for the generative AI chatbot. But as is the emerging trend, it won't come in the form of a smartphone.

The Information reports that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is teaming up with former Apple design chief Jony Ive for the endeavour, which is currently seeking funding of up to US$1 billion . The startup that emerged as a result of the partnership is still unnamed, but may have the likes of OpenAI itself, as well as a number of the latter's investors owning a piece of the business. For now, not much is known about the supposed dedicated ChatGPT device beyond it not being a phone.

Hints of a potential partnership first surfaced last fall, with The Information also being the one to initially report on it. At the time, talks were said to be in the early stages, and nothing was official. That being said, things look to have moved very little, which means that it will be awhile before a product is announced as a result of the partnership, if ever.
