This year’s simplified NAPLAN results reveal one in 10 children are in dire need of help and one in three are below the national benchmark.

Poor academic performance can lead to wellbeing and mental health issues.This is the first year that a new, simplified reporting regime has been put in place, along with higher expectations of what students should be able to do.

“This is especially the case when it comes to turning around results for those who have fallen behind. Previous years of NAPLAN have shown that only around one in five students performing at the minimum level of achievement in year 3 ever go on to beat the minimum benchmark.” “Some schools are good at screening students early, others aren’t. I would like to see more consistent, rigorous screening across the country.”
