One person were seriously injured in a crash on the MacKay bridge which also caused major traffic backups on both sides of the harbour during morning rush hour. - Ryan TaplinHALIFAX, N.S. — One person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries Tuesday morning after a three-vehicle crash on the MacKay bridge in Halifax.
Police initially thought two people were critically hurt, but updated that later Tuesday. A second person was taken to hospital, however. The crash involved two cars and a pickup truck. Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. John MacLeod said the crash happened at about 6 a.m. when a Halifax-bound vehicle collided head on with a second vehicle headed toward Dartmouth. The Dartmouth-bound car was then struck by a vehicle travelling behind it.
The bridge was closed for about 3½ hours while members of the collision reconstruction team worked at the scene to investigate, and reopened at about 9:30 a.m. The investigation is continuing. The crash caused rush-hour traffic chaos that jammed morning rush-hour traffic on the other harbour span, the Macdonald bridge, as well as other commuter routes in and out of Halifax and Dartmouth.It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
