As of early Saturday there is one newly confirmed fire in the Northeast region. Sudbury 22 is located three kilometres east of Lake Wanapitei and 25 kilometres west north of Highway 17. The 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.
Including new fire, there are currently 33 active fires in the region, reports the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services. That's one fewer than Friday. Sudbury 17 which began June 4, is not yet under control and is 5,277 hectares in size. Fire crews are allocated to this fire. Helicopter bucket operations took place yesterday to work priority areas on the fire.
