Senator Ping Lacson says he may not support PhilHealth’s budget for 2021 without instituting reforms.

A lawmaker said he may reject the proposed budget of embattled Philippine Health Insurance Corp. if reforms are not carried out amid fraud allegations.

"If they only showed us that they only spent the money judiciously, economically, probably we can continue supporting PhilHealth along this line," Lacson said. The Senate previously increased PhilHealth's budget for UHC appropriations from ₱67 billion to ₱74 billion under the 2020 National Expenditure Program.

Senator Ralph Recto questioned this"deficit" as the agency still has more than ₱110 billion worth of reserve funds.Meanwhile, Lacson appealed for a"moratorium" on corruption amid the pandemic.
