New poll exclusive to the Star shows roughly 40 per cent of TTC users feel the system is ‘pretty unsafe’ or ‘very unsafe’
One in three TTC users is riding the transit system less than they were a few weeks ago, with nearly half of those riders citing safety concerns as the chief reason, a new poll shows.
“Safety concern is likely impacting ridership and it may continue to do so,” said David Coletto, CEO of Abacus Data. “Even those who use every day — and they would know the most — a large number of them are feeling insecure about it,” Coletto said. As of January, according to the TTC CEO’s report, ridership is at 55 per cent of pre-pandemic levels, down from 68 per cent in November — something the system blamed on the holidays.
