One dead following unit fire in Sydney’s inner west

One person has died and three others have been hospitalised following a unit fire in Sydney’s inner west on Monday morning.

About 6am on Monday, fire crews were called to a unit complex at Young Street in Croydon following reports of an explosion in one of the ground-floor apartments.The alleged explosion caused a major fire and more than 40 firefighters attended the scene.A man was found dead in the unit where police believe the fire started.

A resident, a firefighter and a police officer also had to be transported to hospital and are in stable conditions. A resident said she was getting ready for work when she heard an explosion and said she saw a four-metre ball of fire before people began yelling to evacuate.ABC News.“I thought the back of my house was collapsing so just ran out with my family and then went down the back to see what was going on.”show, Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry said about 30 people were evacuated during the incident.

“We will work with them to provide them comfort and work out how to get them back into their home or alternative accommodation if required.”
