U of A PhD students Mark Powers and Annie McIntosh faced the 900\u002Dpound dilemma of how to get a dinosaur skeleton out of the ground.

Gary’s remained were also an articulated skeleton, where the bones are laid out as they were in the living dinosaur as opposed to be scattered around an excavation site. But, McIntosh explained, Gary’s positioning made that impossible. So, they appealed to the neighbouring community for help with the “prohibitively expensive” extraction.
“I was on the verge of tears, I was so excited,” said McIntosh. “All that work we’d put into it over so many years was finally paying off.”Team members Christiana Garros and Giles Sukkert protect the exposed bones with paper towelEdmontonsaurus was a herbivorous dinosaur whose remains have been found in western North America dating back as far as 73 million years ago.
