Connor McDavid had to leave the ice after suffering a gruesome-looking injury.

left the ice early in the second period of Saturday’s season finale against the Calgary Flames with what appeared to be a left leg injury.

McDavid had a full head of steam before being taken down and crashing hard into Flames netminder Mike Smith. The Oilers superstar’s left shin slammed into one of the posts and McDavid remained on the ice for some time as he was attended to by medical staff. The extent of McDavid’s injury is unclear. However, he did not put any weight on his left leg as he was helped off the ice and down the tunnel.

The play was somewhat reminiscent of when Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos suffered a broken right leg in 2013 after his leg slammed forcefully into a net post.
