The deer was hit about 10:30 a.m. at Dufferin Avenue and Cadboro Bay Road when it jumped out in front of the vehicle.
Oak Bay firefighters used an airbag to lift a car and rescue a deer trapped beneath it Monday morning.
Assistant Chief Jason Joynson said the deer was hit about 10:30 a.m. at Dufferin Avenue and Cadboro Bay Road when it jumped out in front of the vehicle.“At first we thought it might be deceased,” said Joynson “But it started to make some movement, so we lifted the car with our air-bag kit.The Conservation Officer Service was called and suggested the deer be moved to a shaded area in the hope it might eventually manage to get moving.
The fire crew then returned to the station, and police stayed put to wait for a conservation officer. The conservation officer ended up being unable to come, but after about 35 or 40 minutes, the deer got up and ran away, Joynson said. “We’re hopeful that it lives.”
