Jacinta Allan says Coalition nuclear energy supporters have spent too much time watching The Simpsons.

Amid a slowdown in renewable energy project commitments that threatens to undermine climate targets nationwide, Ms Allan said community opponents of solar and wind farms would be stripped of the right to appeal to a Victorian tribunal in a bid to cut red tape and speed up project approvals.

“As the country, and our company, explores low-carbon solutions, gas will continue to play a vital role in power generation to support renewables.” Ms Allan also revealed the Victorian government would remove the ability for third parties to appeal planning decisions for renewable energy projects through the Victorian Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

The government suggests the change will lower the decision time on “state significant projects” to four months from the time an application is lodged.
