NSW Premier Chris Minns has unveiled an overhaul to the state's rental market in a bid to make it 'fairer' for both tenants and owners.

The proposed new laws, to be introduced to parliament in October, include requiring landowners and agents to offer free ways to pay rent, such as via bank transfer and the Commonwealth Government’s Centrepay. Tenants with pets will find it easier to bring their fury friends into rentals with them under the proposed changes. Picture: NewsWire"We were elected with a mandate to modernise the rental market, and that’s what this bill will do," he said.
While landlords will be banned from refusing pets without any reason, they will still be able to decline certain situations including a situation where having a pet could break a law, or if the owner lives in the property and does not want to live with the animal.
