As the NSW Liberals struggle to preselect female candidates, their junior Coalition partner is running a record number.
The NSW Nationals’ first female deputy leader, Bronnie Taylor, says her Liberal colleagues have not done enough to find talented women as her party seeks to double the number of women elected to parliament at the March poll.
The NSW Nationals have 18 MPs in total, and three of their seven ministers are women. The Liberals have three female ministers, including only one in the lower house, and 16 male ministers. “I strongly believe that you cannot be what you cannot see, and country women are the backbones of our communities and they have so much talent and experience to offer,” said Taylor, who is the state’s minister for women.
