People on the registry can get virtual care through free online visits with a GP or nurse practitioner as well as access to primary care clinics, Thompson said. Dr. Colin Audain, president-elect of Doctors Nova Scotia, said Nova Scotia must do more to make Nova Scotia a more appealing place to practise medicine. That means making sure GPs are compensated at a level that’s competitive with the rest of the country, recruiting as many Dalhousie Medical School graduates as possible and doing a better job of supporting doctors who’ve arrived from outside the province.
“They’ve tried to create some simpler pathways for compensation, to take away a bit of the administration burden, which is also something that’s a focus here in Nova Scotia,” he said. “We can’t continue to manage healthcare the same way that we always have – we need innovative ideas to tackle this growing issue and right now, we aren’t seeing that from the Houston government.”
