Australia’s chef de mission, Anna Meares, says every effort is being made to get the Matildas their luggage and equipment that was left behind after a private flight to France.
Football Australia’s decision to fly the Matildas squad from Spain to France on a private plane for the Olympics continues to cause a major headache after the team’s luggage failed to arrive in Marseilles for a second straight day.
However, personal luggage, medical items and other important equipment has still not been transported to the team, just days out from its most important match since last year’s World Cup. “It’s a cargo issue with the international travel and there are potential risks being on a commercial flight or a private flight. It was a decision by Football Australia to take a chartered flight to try and avoid those issues.”The International Olympic Committee has worked hard to make Paris 2024 a sustainable Games and at a press conference on Saturday, IOC representatives were asked about the Matildas’ decision to catch a private flight.
