Several past players have lashed out at the Indore curators for presenting a pitch with 'underprepared bits of the wicket to favour India' despite Australia dominating the first day's play.

India won the toss and elected to bat on the pitch which was expected to favour the quicks but the surface turned out to be a spinners paradise with unpredictable turn and bounce.

The curators at Holkare Cricket Stadium in Indore have come under fire for the pitch that saw Australia dominate day one. Picture: Robert Cianflone/Getty Images “It shows that basically what they’ve done is underprepared bits of the wicket to favour India,” he told Fox Cricket. During the first session in Indore the spinners turned the ball an average of 4.8 degrees while in Delhi it turned just 3.8 degrees and 2.5 degrees in Nagpur.

Hayden continued his attack on the pitch later on claiming the Test format was being ruined by wickets that didn’t allow for a full five-day contest. The Australian spinners ripped through the Indian batting line-up on day one of the third Test in Indore. Picture: Robert Cianflone/Getty Images
