HAMILTON—While 81 per cent of New Democrats want to see Jagmeet Singh continue to lead their party, 19 per cent—the largest proportion of the membership since he won the leadership in 2017—were in disagreement. spoke to three NDP members who voted in favour of triggering a leadership election who said they felt Singh had run his course as leader, that the NDP had become too closely associated with the Liberal Party.
She said she also thought there was a good reaction to Singh laying out the party’s “vision.” The two times Singh received the most applause, ovations, and chants of “NDP, NDP, NDP,” rang out amongst the crowd was when he mentioned Kinew’s majority victory in Manitoba's provincial election, and when Singh offered a simplified version of the “vision”: “Less worry. More joy. Less fear. More hope. Less greed. More compassion,” he said.
