Treasurer Jim Chalmers has warned the RBA will be held to account for its decisions after backlash over contentious rates advice in an exclusive interview with Sky News Australia's Sharri Markson.

In an exclusive interview with Sky News Australia host Sharri Markson, the Treasurer conceded Reserve Bank Governor Philip Low was “not beyond criticism”.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has told Sky News Australia the Reserve Bank should be"accountable" for its decisions. Picture: Sky News Australia The Reserve Bank came under fire after Dr Lowe repeatedly said in 2021 he did not expect the cash rate to rise until 2024. “Well, I’m certainly sorry if people listen to what we’d said and then acted on ... what we said, and now regret what they have done,” Dr Lowe said.

But despite conceding the RBA needed to operate under improved accountability standards, the Treasurer refused to pass judgement on the Governor’s decisions.
