“It was pretty clear to us it didn’t need to go to a referendum. It just wouldn’t have been a good deal for Albertans,” he said.
University of Alberta sports management professor Dan Mason said Alberta has a strong history of hosting such events, but the timing isn’t right at the moment. Mason added that the events themselves should try to take steps to make hosting more affordable for cities.
