“I think you still miss me. Because you left something valuable behind, in one of my pockets.”
There’s generally a description of an event or a suspect, the need-to-know details and a callout for the public to contact police with any relevant information. Straightforward and to-the-point, police media releases are all about getting down to business – but now and then, there’s a case that allows for a bit of humour and levity.
Sgt. Peter DeVries took on the task of helping the jacket write an ‘I Saw You’ ad to locate its original owner.“I’m not sporty, but I’m just as comfortable at a pub as I am at the symphony. I’m warm, soft, formal, and low-maintenance. I don’t like labels, so nobody can tell where I’m from. I’m well put together, and have never fallen apart in public. Smooth-chested. No back hair!”“By my guess you’re over 40 You know how to treat a jacket. You never labelled me and I loved you for that.
“It was the new owner of the jacket who reported the find,” DeVries told Postmedia. He wouldn’t elaborate on what the mystery item was, as that information is considered evidence and will be used to confirm the identity of the jacket’s previous owner.
