Easton Mikus and Tyler Jordan scored two apiece and Ben Laurette made 37 saves for the shutout to lead the North Stars to a 2-0 best-of-seven series lead over Wisconsin.
THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay North Stars have taken a stranglehold on their best-of-seven first-round playoff series, but the job is only half done.
A little over two minutes later Tyler Jordan doubled the Thunder Bay lead, burying a wrist shot from the left circle. The quick start was key to helping erase the memories of Friday night’s opener, that saw the North Stars jump in front 4-1, only to find themselves in a 4-4 tie when the third period began and in need of some late heroics to pull out a 6-4 win.North Stars coach Rob DeGagne said his team demonstrated a much better 60-minute effort in Game 2, including a pair of power play goals and a shorthanded effort by Alex Remenda early in the third, his first of two on the night.
They took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission then poured on the offence in the second, scoring four times to break open the game and douse any thoughts the outmatched sixth-place Lumberjacks might have had.
