A mother is incensed that her two young sons will have to testify all over again against a Dartmouth man accused of molesting them, after a mistrial was declared at his first trial.

Brandon William McNeil, 29, is accused of molesting two boys in Dartmouth in February 2021. A mistrial has been declared at McNeil's trial, meaning the youngsters will have to testify again at his new trial in May. - FileDARTMOUTH, N.S. —

Judge Rickcola Brinton was supposed to deliver the verdict in November 2021, but the decision was adjourned several times after she went on a leave of absence for undisclosed reasons.Last week, the defence rejected another possible approach, which would have seen a new judge step in for Brinton at the original trial, review the evidence and render a verdict. The boys’ mother said McNeil’s decision to have a new trial means the youngsters will have to relive “every moment of the sexual abuse.

“But absolutely none of this is acceptable or right in any way possible. I am so angry, so hurt, so let down and so very frustrated.”McNeil was arrested in March 2021 and got bail that month with the Crown’s consent. He surrendered himself back into custody 12 days later, after his surety, a Wolfville man with whom he had been residing, backed out of his commitment.

McNeil was ordered to remain in Halifax Regional Municipality and live with his surety at her apartment in south-end Halifax. He can only leave the Wellington Street address if he is within 10 metres of the woman and is always in her line of sight.
