KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court has scheduled the next mention date for July 17 in a case involving a businessman accused of engaging in a non-consensual sexual act with a woman using an object.

Judge Siti Aminah Ghazali fixed the date after a request from deputy public prosecutor Nidzuwan Abd Latip, who informed the court that the prosecution had already submitted some of the documents to the defence and would provide the remaining documents on the next mention date.

The accused businessman, Wan Mohammad Ashraf Nasjaruddin, 42, was a former logistics and security director of Shah Alam Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia. He allegedly committed the act against a 25-year-old bank officer in a hotel restroom in Jalan Bukit Bintang at 5am on Jan 2. The charge against him falls under Section 377CA of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 30 years’ imprisonment and whipping if found guilty.
