Sky News Washington Correspondent Annelise Nielsen says we’ve been “promised” the AUKUS nuclear submarine deal is “crystalising before our eyes” despite it all “happening behind closed doors”.
Defence Minister Richard Marles and Foreign Minister Penny Wong have just finished two days of high-level meetings about the deals in Washington DC.
Mr Marles has announced there will be no tax increase to pay for the nuclear submarines in the AUKUS deal. Ms Nielsen says, “we have heard is there is going to be an increase in military participation between Australia and the US, including more military rotations from the US in Australia in the coming year”.
