The US Secretary of State met Australia's Foreign Minister in Brisbane on Friday to begin AUSMIN talks, with the two likely to discuss key issues including China's influence in the region and the supply of critical minerals. Picture: NCA NewsWIRE/John Gass Secretary Blinken then echoed those remarks in his response, as he hailed the"huge difference" Australia's support was making to US-led efforts aimed at preserving stability."I don't think that alliance or partnership has ever been stronger, at least in my experience.
He then finished by highlighting the recent diplomatic blitz undertaken by Australia's Foreign Minister, telling reporters it felt like everywhere he visited in the region officials told him"oh yeah Penny was just here." Those efforts are now being mirrored by US officials, with both Secretary Blinken and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin making stops in several island nations en route to Australia.
It is expected Secretary Blinken will discuss the implications of the pact with Senator Wong, as they attempt to manage the future implications for security in the region and determine what lessons can be learnt about China's ambitions.
