\u0022It\u0027s fun and yet frustrating at the same time to come to the world championship and have every team playing at such a high level.\u0022
“The depth here is so impressive. We have seven or eight of the world’s top 15 teams. Back in 2003, 10 of the top 15 teams were in Canada and you’d only have one of them . The shotmaking is incredible. Even the strategy, you can’t count on somebody making tactical errors or throwing zeroes like you used to be able to back in the early 2000s.”
“From the time decided to take up curling to see how far he could go, he’s worked as hard or harder than any other curler in the country and gotten himself to a point where he’s at a high level,” said Shuster. “He came in from being dominant in another sport, where he could win a battle on the line and help his team. Throwing only two rocks out of eight every end is a bit eye-opening for him. He’s finding out how difficult it is to have the whole package at the top level in this sport.
With curlers like Sweden’s Niklas Edin and Canada’s Brad Gushue playing at such an elite level, Shuster says others need to keep taking steps ahead.
