As scientists monitor Covid-19 infections across South Africa ahead of the country's potential fifth wave, one expert says it could be driven by a new variant.

"Since the second wave, this [has been] the case, so it is quite likely that the next wave will be driven by a new variant," KRISP infectious diseases specialist Dr Richard Lessells told Health24.
