The TTC has opened its abandoned Bay Lower station to visitors this weekend for scary sights, trick-or-treating and a bit of transit trivia.
Inside Bay subway station, two floors down, is the gateway to another world, one that’s dark and full of terrors. It’s also filled with history, and fun.
Closed since 1966, Bay Lower station has become a backdrop for film, television and music video shoots. Amid an array of skeletons, scarecrows and mad scientists is a projector exhibiting the station’s latest appearances, in the movie “Spiral” and music videos like Drake’s “What’s Next” and Future’s “Coming Out Strong” with The Weeknd.
But now, instead of actors, directors and crew, drifting along the platform are the likes of Super Mario, witches and Green Arrow. Although it’s fun to take in the frights of Halloween, there’s a special adrenalin rush in doling them out. TTC volunteers dressed up for the occasion, as did adult revellers making a stop before a night out on the town.
