Nick Daicos is adamant Collingwood were in the mix for another deep run in September before being knocked out of AFL finals contention. The Pies defeated Carlton and Brisbane either side of a narrow defeat to ladder leaders Sydney, that loss among a handful of results haunting the reigning premiers. Collingwood’s famous record in close matches faltered this year and they are already well aware they have work to do defending leads in 2025.
The topic was already a focus in conversations between Daicos, his Collingwood legend dad Peter and Pies coach Craig McRae in the lead-up to the clash with Brisbane last Saturday. “I actually had that chat with Fly and and also with dad before the game on the weekend, about getting that next possession and and getting it out in space,” Daicos said. “Getting a bit more uncontested ball, which I’ve struggled to do a bit this year.
