The media company now owns half of online bookmaker Betr.
According to recent filings, Betr recently took on more than $50 million of new financing and News Corp now owns half of the start-up.
Last week, Betr sent text messages to customers who had placed 100-1 bets on Brazil to win the tournament, offering them $400 in vouchers to cash out. News Corp – through Nationwide News – TGW and Tekkorp were equal shareholders, shelling out a total of $12.5 million to set up the company in April.News Corp and Mr Tripp’s vehicle have now taken on an equal split in the business after a capital raising. According to filings, Nationwide News and TGW share 47 per cent each of the equity in Betr after raising $51 million.News Corp paid $4.5 million less than TGW and Tekkorp for its shares in Betr.
