“We understand this may not touch everybody, but it’s an attempt to get money into people’s pockets who need it the most in this time of distress. If there are people who slip through the cracks, we want them to call the helpline that we’ve promoted before and we’ll do our best to accommodate.”Funds could flow as early as next week, and residents have to register with the Canadian Red Cross to be able to access it.

Affected individuals are encouraged to register with the Canadian Red Cross by calling toll-free 1-800-863-6582 or visiting the emergency shelter at St. James Regional High School, located at 200 Hardys Arterial Rd. in Channel-Port aux Basques. • $500,000 will be provided to the Canadian Red Cross to administer on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, including $250,000 to support claims for immediate assistance and $250,000 to provide temporary accommodation assistance.
