Peter Wilkins is co-founder of the Newfoundland Distillery Company in Clarke's Beach. — David HowellsCLARKE'S BEACH, N.L. — It's been almost six years since the Newfoundland Distillery Company came out with its first product — a vodka — in May of 2017.

"And then we'll really be across Canada this year, which is super exciting," said Wilkins, who co-founded the business with William Carter.And it all started in Clarke's Beach, a small community in Conception Bay North. In early 2020, the business moved further down the main road from its old location in a former department store to a renovated property along the shoreline.

An Englishman from London who is also a visual artist and former TV host, Wilkins has called Newfoundland home since the late 1990s. Last year, Breakwater Books published his latest venture —"The Newfoundland and Labrador Cocktail Book." Definitely meeting my wife. That was in a bar in Prague in the Czech Republic. Who would have guessed what happened? But I ended up living here and it's all been fantastic ... I had lived in Toronto before, so I knew about , but I was really thinking we'd go back to the U.K., and we did live there, and then we came to live here.Ideally, just butter, cheese, bread, ideally accompanied with suitable spirits and wine and beer.I read a lot of books ...
