Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell announced a grant program for ECEs in a news conference at the Association of Early Childhood Educators Newfoundland and Labrador office in St. John’s. The new grant gives eligible ECEs $2,500 upon initial certification, and further grants of $2,500 up to a total of $7,500 after each certification renewal, which ECEs complete every three years. To get the grant, ECEs have to agree to work in regulated childcare services in the province.
“Bursaries are a good start, but they do need to be sustained over time,” Morris said in a speech at the news conference.
