SYDNEY, N.S. — A Cape Breton Eagles forward Jacob Newcombe, who is battling non-Hodgin’s lymphoma, will participate in his team’s season-opening warmup on Friday at Centre 200.“Newcombe has faced the challenges of cancer with remarkable strength and determination,” the press release reads.

Avery Pynn will also participate in opening night activities that will include a ceremonial puck drop. Pynn, 5, set up a lemonade stand outside his house and raised over $670 for Newcombe who is his favourite Eagle, and any treatment he may need. “Avery's presence at the home opener is a testament to the strong bonds within the Cape Breton community and the power of collective support,” according to the Eagles.Related Stories
