For 16 of the 32 teams, September 2nd marks the final day of the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Two teams will achieve the right to directly qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games while the remaining squads fight for an opportunity to play in a Qualifying Tournament.Egypt has the easiest path to the Paris Olympics out of all teams. All they have to do is win their match against Cabo Verde, and they are in. If they lose, all Asian teams then become contenders for the lone ticket reserved for the best-placed team from the continent.
If both teams win, then the World Cup point differential and even points-for will come into play. If both teams lose, then a rabbit hole might open up where all three other teams from Africa - Cabo Verde, Angola, and Cote d'Ivoire - can snatch the ticket to the Olympics. While the top spot from Asia and Africa will go directly to the Paris Olympic Games, the second-best teams from the two continents, including New Zealand, will earn a ticket to one of four Olympic Qualifying Tournaments next year.
The remaining teams fight to be among the top 27 teams, which will guarantee them a spot in one of the OQTs. Every game of the World Cup can be streamed live or on-demand via the official Courtside 1891 platform.
