Early morning showers in Christchurch have cleared and some final mopping up is being done at Hagley Oval ahead of what should be an on-time start to the day. Australia have the job ahead of them after yet another swift loss of the first four wickets, but on the flipside they should get the best of the batting conditions if they’re good enough.
The new ball has been truly testing this game, before settling down at around the 30-over mark. With 56 overs still to go before the second new ball is due for New Zealand, the likes of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh are unlikely to score slowly enough to let it be taken. A long way to go yet, of course.Update: there is one more small band of rain that has formed rapidly and the ground staff are hovering with the covers...
