Victorian Liberal leader John Pesutto has unveiled his shadow Cabinet with a slate of fresh faces including former tennis star Sam Groth as the party recovers from a devastating election loss.

The recently-elected leader also returned his rival for the top job, Brad Battin, to the shadow ministry in a newly created portfolio covering the reform of the state’s criminal justice system.promised to reform the party and expand its appeal to female voters and Victoria’s aspirational class.

While the Coalition received a 2.6 swing towards it, most of its support came in safe Labor seats in the west with majorities of up to 25 per cent. Key promotions were handed to newly-appointed deputy opposition leader in the upper house Matt Bach who will take on the education portfolio. Newly elected upper house members Ann-Marie Hermans and Evan Mulholland will take on the emergency services and cabinet secretary portfolios.

While the new leader promised to boost the party’s female representation, the frontbench includes only seven women out of 21 positions.
