Reminder: St. John's bylaw limits fireworks to Canada Day and New Year's Eve between 7:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. 🎆 Click here for all the details.

Any aerial fireworks and pyrotechnics displays will be banned throughout the rest of the year unless a special event approval is granted by the city or on other days declared by city council.Individuals must be 18 years or older to light fireworks and fireworks cannot be thrown in, into or on buildings, vehicles, public roads and public places.

Additionally, individuals must have quick and easy access to a fire extinguisher and a bucket of water. City council proposed the bylaw in response to residents’ concerns about fireworks disruptions, like noise and the impact on animals and property. A public fireworks display will ring in the New Year on Friday, Dec. 31, at 8 p.m. over Quidi Vidi Lake. In the event of bad weather, the display will be postponed to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022.
