The municipality acquired the property in 2000 and has been seriously looking at developing a park for a couple of years. A sod-turning ceremony was held in November and the county was ready to begin the work in the spring.“I think what this means to Annapolis County residents is the opportunity that they can now come in on a very flat, even surface and enjoy it with people of all ages,” said Debra Ryan, Annapolis County’s director of community development.
Annapolis Warden Alex Morrison said: “It is sure to be a destination spot for residents and tourists alike.”– Annapolis Basin Conference Centre, Cornwallis Community Gardens Association, Acadian Seaplants, Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage and the Annapolis Valley Trails Coalition.
Digby-Annapolis MLA Jill Balser said she received an email about accessibility to the beach in the days after the 2021 provincial election. She threw her support behind the project and was pleased to attend the opening.
