BREAKING: A new Omicron subvariant raising major concerns in the US for its rapid spread during the busy holiday season has now been detected in Australia. 7NEWS

Epidemiologist and the World Health Organisation technical lead on COVID Maria Van Kerkhove said that the estimated 37 per cent increase in US cases caused by the subvariant in December is concerning.“NSW Health continues to monitor emerging sub-variants including XBB.1.5, of which there have been a small number of detections in the two weeks to 24 December 2022,” NSW Health said.
